To ensure that the history of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn and the gymnastics movement remains accessible to visitors during this time, the museum presents a <strong data-start=\"464\" data-end=\"510\">Interim exhibition in the Jahn Honorary Hall<\/strong> on Sch\u00fctzenstra\u00dfe.\nWith the exhibition, the Jahn Museum is also returning to its historical origin: the Jahn Hall of Honor was <strong data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"683\">1903 as the first Jahn Museum<\/strong> built and inaugurated. The historic building thus provides a special setting for the transition period. The interim exhibition combines <strong data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"852\">The familiar with the new<\/strong>. Selected parts of the previous permanent exhibition were adopted and supplemented by <strong data-start=\"932\" data-end=\"1047\">previously unseen objects from the museum's collection as well as outstanding recent acquisitions<\/strong> completed. In addition, the exhibition is dedicated to the history of <strong data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1159\">Jahn memorial sites and the German Gymnastics Festivals<\/strong>.The interim exhibition does not see itself as a substitute for the future permanent exhibition, but rather as <strong data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1370\">independent insight into the museum's collection and history during the renovation phase<\/strong>. At the same time, the transition period offers the opportunity to present new objects, try out perspectives, and further advance the redesign of the museum.\nAfter completion of the general renovation, the Jahn Museum is to reopen with a <strong data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1643\">newly designed permanent exhibition<\/strong> reopened. A completely new permanent exhibition is scheduled to be implemented by 2029, which, in addition to his life and work, will also examine the history of his reception from 1852 to the present.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/standige-ausstellung@2x.jpg\" alt=\"standige-ausstellung@2x\" title=\"permanent-exhibition@2x\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>\r\n\tThe house, built in 1838\/39, today houses<br \/>\r\nthe Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Museum\r\n\t<p>1TP3Lifeandwork<\/p>\r\n\t<p>The permanent exhibition on the first floor of the residential building provides a comprehensive insight into the life and work of \"Turnvater&#8220; Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, who is considered a highly controversial figure in 19th century German history. All political systems of the late 19th and 20th centuries rubbed up against this figure and used him as a projection screen. He stands symbolically for the \"biography of the Germans&#8220; and, with his extraordinarily differentiated reception, continues to have an effect on our society here and now, polarized in rejection and veneration. Based on its democratic self-image, the museum also cultivates a democratic approach to different opinions.<\/p>\r\n<p>On the tour, visitors can explore the four thematic complexes of <strong>\"Creator of German gymnastics&#8220;, \"Personal life and family&#8220;, \"Publicist and patriot&#8220; and \"Reformer &#8211; Revolutionary? Deutscht\u00fcmler &#8211; German &#8220;<\/strong> To get to know Jahn as a person in his time and the prevailing social conditions, also with his character traits and his time-bound views and statements. This view of the &#8222;whole Jahn&#8220; with all his merits, achievements and goals, but also with all his human weaknesses, failures, disappointments and conflicts, runs through all the exhibition complexes.<\/p>\r\n<p>By 2029, a completely new permanent exhibition is to be implemented, which will focus not only on his life and work but also on his reception history from 1852 to the present day.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\t<p>Creator of German Gymnastics<\/p>\r\n<p>Personal life and family<\/p>\r\n<p>Journalist and patriot<\/p>\r\n<p>Reformer &#8211; Revolutionary? German Troublemaker &#8211; German?<\/p>\r\n\t<p>In 1999, the building was renovated and the current permanent exhibition \"Friedrich Ludwig Jahn: Life and Work&#8220; was opened in the rooms on the first floor.<\/p>\r\n\t<h3>Friedrich Ludwig JahnFriedrich Ludwig Jahn:<br \/>\r\nCreator of German Gymnastics<\/h3>\r\n\t<p>The first complex is dedicated to Jahn's life's work: the development of a modern civic physical education and its design as a public matter.<\/p>\r\n<p>Jahn's book is of particular importance in the representation of gymnastics. <strong>\"The German art of gymnastics&#8220;<\/strong>which he published together with Eiselen in 1816. Besides Ernst Bernhard Wilhelm Eiselen (1792-1846), Karl Friedrich Friesen (1784-1814) was Jahn's most important comrade-in-arms in the development of gymnastics.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/JM_Turnpferd.jpg\" alt=\"JM_Turnpferd\" title=\"JM_Hobbyhorse\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>\r\n\t<p>An eye-catcher of particular historical significance is the &#8222;Schwingel&#8220; (gymnastics horse), which the Berlin gymnasts gave to their &#8222;gymnastics father&#8220; for Christmas 1812.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-museum-3@2x.jpg\" alt=\"image-museum-3@2x\" title=\"image-museum-3@2x\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>\r\n\t<p>Living room in Jahn's time in Biedermeier style<\/p>\r\n\t<h3>FamilyFriedrich Ludwig Jahn:<br \/>\r\nPersonal life and family<\/h3>\r\n\t<p>The second complex depicts Jahn's private life from his <strong>Childhood<\/strong> until his death. Among other things, the long <strong>Engagement<\/strong> with his first wife, the six years of dungeon and <strong>Fortress Prison<\/strong> and the following <strong>A new start in exile in Freyburg<\/strong> illustrated by various documents and objects from the personal possessions of Jahn and his family.<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to the four-square chess set, notebook, walking stick and tobacco pipe and pouch of the &#8222;gymnastics father&#8220;, the oil painting by the painter Heine, for which Jahn himself is said to have modeled, is particularly impressive.<\/p>\r\n\t<h3>Publicist and patriotFriedrich Ludwig Jahn:<br \/>\r\nJournalist and patriot<\/h3>\r\n\t<p>Among other things, his two major works will be on display: <strong>\"Deutsches Volksthum&#8220; <\/strong>(1810) and <strong>\"The German Art of Gymnastics&#8220; <\/strong>(Jahn\/Eiselen 1816), the latter in an expanded edition of 1847 that has become rare. With \"Volksthum&#8220;, Jahn occupies a worthy place among those progressive German reformers at the beginning of the 19th century whose works are referred to as national education plans.<\/p>\r\n<p>The handwritten texts exhibited here are only a small selection from the museum's collection.<\/p>\r\n<p>The manuscript on the Thirty Years' War, as well as the letter from his wife, with their fire damage, illustrate the tragic losses of books, letters and other manuscripts that Jahn had suffered in the fire of his apartment in 1838.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-museum@2x.jpg\" alt=\"image-museum@2x\" title=\"image-museum@2x\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>\r\n\tThe \"worry chair&#8220; in the study and the<br \/>\r\nWriting secretary belong to the preserved furniture<br \/>\r\nfrom Jahn's personal possession.\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-museum-4@2x.jpg\" alt=\"image-museum-4@2x\" title=\"image-museum-4@2x\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>\r\n\t<h3>Friedrich Ludwig JahnReformer &#8211; Revolutionary?<br \/>\r\nGerman bumpkin &#8211; German?<\/h3>\r\n\t<p>The fourth complex presents highlights of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn's political activity. A Jahn quote and the map of Central Europe at the end of the 18th century illustrate the experiences and political conditions gained in his childhood and youth as the starting point for his lifelong striving for a unified German nation state.<\/p>\r\n\t<p>With his National Education Plan, the book<strong> \"Deutsches Volksthum&#8220;<\/strong>his initiative to establish the secret <strong>German Federal<\/strong>, the establishment of the public gymnastics field on the <strong>Hasenheide<\/strong> and the spreading of gymnastics in Prussia and other German states, as well as with his activities for the founding of the Deutsche <strong>Original fraternity<\/strong> Jahn took on a variety of tasks aimed at realizing the idea of German unity.<\/p>\r\n<p>The \"Burschenschaftern\" (fraternity members), most of whom were also gymnasts, held a meeting in the autumn of 1817. <strong>Wartburgfest<\/strong> aroused the distrust of the princes once and for all. The murder of the Russian councillor of state August von Kotzebue by the Burschenturner Karl Sand was the final cause for the <strong>\"Demagogue persecutions&#8220;<\/strong>, the arrest of F. L. Jahn and the<strong> \u201eTurnsperre&#8220;<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>The last topic in this complex is devoted to Jahn's activities as a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly in 1848\/49.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jahn-museum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/img-museum@2x.jpg\" alt=\"img-museum@2x\" title=\"img-museum@2x\" itemprop=\"image\"\/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MuseumMuseum Entdecken InterimsausstellungInterimsausstellung Blick in die am 19.
