A chronologically comprehensive access to authentic material of a contemporary involved in and observing sports is now possible by means of this almost 1 000-page selection of unpublished and scattered accessible writings of Carl Diem.
The editors have not left out any of the major chapters from this life's work, which is so significant for the sport. Even as a selection, a stimulating abundance is offered. The core of Diem's teaching becomes clear: The moral obligation of the individual also to a life of movement – here in the guise of sport - which is placed in the horizon of ‘family, fatherland, humanity’ and thus can never do without the contemporary historical character.
