Now 150 years ago, on 15.10.1852, Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, the founder of the German gymnastics movement, which attached the pseudonym “Turnvater” to its ancestor already during its lifetime, died. About Jahn's life and his historical meaning exists today an extensive and various research literature, for whose appearance alone several special bibliographies are available. From this inexhaustible body of literature emerged changeable “Jahn images”, absorbing the cultural and political currents of time. They left lasting traces in the collective memory through the interaction with non-literary forms of tradition, as the monuments have always represented as symbolic memory reinforcement.
