The book deals with the Coalition Wars; the founding of the Confederation of the Rhine and the simultaneous disintegration of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation; the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt, 1806; Saxony's period of the Confederation of the Rhine; the Continental Blockade; the Peace of Tilsit, 1807 and two years later the Peace of Schönbrunn; the Russian campaign; the alliance between Prussia and Russia; the reforms that took place as well as the uprisings and wars of liberation; finally, the establishment and importance of the Saxon fortress on the Elbe and in Torgau; in general, the fortresses on the Elbe; further troop movements and field battles on Saxon territory, the Battle of Leipzig; the Congress of Vienna; the reduced Saxony and its new beginning.
For this purpose, the book has incorporated the respective text versions of the preceding conference papers, and it has been further enriched by additional essays outside the conference proceedings, for example on the economic-political situation of the countries of Europe or by inserting contributions on the methodology of historiography about that period.
The result is now a self-contained and well-structured whole.
