This conference volume documents the current initiatives of a contemporary approach to the cultural heritage of sport. The individual contributions illustrate and show ways in which sports archives and collections can be maintained under different sponsorships, how sports history archives and museums can serve as memory repositories, and how sports history can be preserved in a networked fashion. The essays provide important impulses for stronger cooperation between sports archives, museums and collections, both for existing history institutions and for organized sports as a whole. The keynote lecture by the renowned literary scholar Dr. Thomas Schmidt (Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach) on the occasion of the anniversary symposium expands the perspective of the present volume to include the history of the tense relationship between the “hostile siblings” literature and sport.
