The Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Society is a nationwide, non-profit association based in Freyburg (Unstrut). As the sponsor of the Jahn Museum, the Jahn Society has set itself the goal of researching the life and work of the founder of the gymnastics movement in Germany and his environment, as well as educating people about his significance for the past and present.
The Jahn Society emerged in 2008 from the Association for the Promotion of Tradition and Preservation of the Freyburg Jahn Memorials, which was founded in 1992.
Jahn spent a large part of his life in Freyburg. In addition to his former home, the Jahn Memorial Gymnasium and the Jahn Hall of Honor are also part of the Jahn memorials in Freyburg (Unstrut).

Goals and tasks
The Society dedicates its activities to the goal of researching the life and work of the founder of the gymnastics movement in Germany and his environment, interpreting his significance in history and the present, and preserving and disseminating his legacy. It wants to bring Jahn as an important person of German contemporary history as well as his work into the field of vision of a broad public. To this end, the Society maintains relationships with the German Gymnastics Federation and the regional gymnastics associations, with universities, schools, museums and organizations that feel committed to this cause. The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Gesellschaft runs the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Museum in Freyburg, which, in addition to a permanent exhibition on Jahn's life and work, also shows special exhibitions and makes its archives available for research. It also looks after the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Hall of Honor, which was built by the German Gymnastics Association in 1903.
Activities
The Jahn Society runs the Jahn Museum and looks after the Hall of Honor in Freyburg an der Unstrut. It is responsible for the contents and exhibitions as well as for the preservation and research of the collections. It offers guided tours and is available as a cooperation partner and advisor for school projects, homework and projects and takes care of the accessibility of the collection for researchers.
It regularly hosts cultural events and scientific symposia, organizes exhibitions and publishes on gymnastics history topics.
In addition, the Society publishes the Jahn-Report as a periodical publication, which appears twice a year. It contains current contributions on Jahn research and other gymnastics history topics and events.
The Jahn Press Service regularly provides information and articles on gymnastics history for printing free of charge.
The Jahn Library, which can be accessed online via the homepage, offers a selection of important publications and sources on Jahn and the history of gymnastics.
Board of Directors, Presidium and General Meeting
The Society is managed by a Presidium, which also includes the four-member Board of Directors. The Presidium and the Board are elected for four years at a time. At a general meeting held at least every two years, the presidium gives the annual report and presents the new tasks.
Membership
Membership is open to any person, association or institution that is committed to the goals of the Jahn Society as set forth in its statutes. The membership begins after receipt of the application in the office to the following month. Members receive a membership card which entitles them to free admission to the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Museum and the Hall of Honor. The annual membership fee is:
25,00 € for personal membership
75,00 € for the membership of associations and institutions
