January 18, 2021 marks the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the German Empire. For this reason, the AG Orte der Demokratiegeschichte is organizing a nationwide series of events and providing resources to help assess the ambivalent role of the Kaiserreich in German history and for German democracy, as well as to heighten the sense of the complexity of the political system, society, and political culture of the Kaiserreich among the general public.
Together with the Saxony-Anhalt State Agency for Civic Education organizes the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Society therefore on 23 January 2021, from 14:00 – 16:30, a web symposium entitled "Des Reiches Stützen? On the political and social role of gymnasts, singers and marksmen in the era of the foundation of the empire and in the empire (1860-1918)".
The conference will be broadcast on the Youtube channel of the State Agency for Civic Education. Interested parties can follow the event here free of charge and without prior registration. Participation is possible via comments and questions in the comments column of the channel.
